Professional Disc for DATA
Sony's Professional Disc for DATA is an optical disc that uses a 405nm blue-violet laser with a numerical aperature of 0.85 and a capacity if 23GB. This is the same technology that is used for Blu-ray Disc but Professional Disc is a different format. Sony's Professional Disc for DATA is used for high-capacity data storage as well as broadcast/video recording application. Professional Disc for DATA is compatible with Sony's XDCAM™ recording systems. Sony also makes Professional Disc internal and external drives for servers or computers with a 16MB cache. Professional Disc for DATA is a cartridge format optical disc and is not compatible with Blu-ray Disc recorders and players, it has an entirely different format and application. Data transfer rates for Professional Disc for DATA are 72Mbps or 9MB per second. This higher data transfer rate makes it ideal for high-capacity data storage as well as the XDCAM™ recording and editing systems.
